Super Compact / Super Twin

Super Compact - October 2015 (UK)

The cabs are simply stunning. I think pretty much any cab can sound fine on its own when it isn't being pushed; the real test is when you're up against a Marshall 4x12 and a drummer who hits 'em hard. With my SCs, it doesn't seem to matter where I am on the fretboard (or even in the room), I'm always right there in the mix. With every other amp/cab combination I've used, even after a fair amount of tinkering before a gig, this just wasn't the case; it often felt like a compromise and I'd end up gigging with the nagging feeling that I wasn't quite happy with my sound. These days, I hardly even need to tinker!
And of course, they're loud! In the kind of venues we play, I could probably get away with one but I feel better with two when I'm next to the Marshall 4x12 (which is ridiculous overkill, btw, but guitarists rarely listen to reason when it comes to the size of their stack, do they?).

And it's just so much less hassle to be able to carry one in each hand, and not have to put the seats down in my car!
But you know all this, so I'll stop!
Anyway, thanks again.

Super Twin - October 2015 (Australia)

Did my first show with the Super Twin this evening. It's PERFECT. Handles my sound brilliantly! No farting or tweaking around between songs, it just pumped away and sounded huge. The venue had a really steep staircase to the bandroom, so loading in/out was a breeze.
Thanks again. Awesome, awesome cab.

Super Twin - September 2015 (UK)

Cab arrived Friday, I had a quick half hour to play Friday night and it sounded great, took all the pedals I threw at it very well (obviously a pretty important factor for me!) and is bloody loud. I've got the first group rehearsal with it tonight, I'll let you know how I get on!

(...)

Hi Alex, Hope you're well. I have a complaint about my Super Twin. I can't use it at bedroom volume. Ha! I jest of course! This cab is incredible. It does everything my BFMs did but it fits in my boot and I can (almost) hide it from my wife. Absolutely ridiculous cab!! Thanks

Super Twin - September 2015 (UK)

Hi Magical People of the Barefaced team!
So, my Super Twin. I have had it a couple of months now I guess an have gigged it a few times, including at the Worlds End near you guys. I play in a Blues/Rock Band called The Grey Blues Band, nothing fancy but we get the job done. Since buying the cabinet, I have noticed that I am getting a lot more praise from people who come to see us. I am still playing the same material, maybe a little more confidently, but I am sure this is be due to the awesome sound I now have which has to be due to my Super Twin which I drive using a Mark Bass TTFE500 head.I was chasing after something a bit vintage without the weight and size problems of a full on 8x10 rig. The Super Twin has definitely helped me achieve this! I cannot believe how light this cabinet is yet its sound is so full and clear with amazing headroom.
Thank you so much for producing such a fantastic cabinet!

I’m delighted with the Supertwin: lovely tone, great power - and eventually a cab I can handle without breaking my back.
Thanks and best wishes.

Super Twin - August 2015 (UK)

Guys, the cab was, as you know, awesome. Sounded great, bold and loud and I had forgotten how good the dispersion is on your cabs. On sound check I walked around the stage and around the room and the sound was just as good everywhere. Black magic! The band and the sound man were very pleased. We put just a tiny bit of bass through the PA just to keep the stage quieter and it sounded really good.

Alex, good job upgrading the range man. The Super Twin does feel like an evolution of my old Super 12 and it does complement my Tone Hammer way better than the S12. I wonder how badass it would sound through an amp with a big transformer.

Guys, thanks so much for always being so cool. Every time I needed you, you were always prompt to reply and really helpful. And thanks soooooo much for lending me the cab.
Thanks so much once again!
Cheers

Super Twin - August 2015 (USA)

I received the Super Twin and all I can say is WOW! I’d given up on modern cabinets a long time ago because I don’t really like most modern bass tones. In the worst case, they can sound like a metal garbage truck filled with glass bottles bouncing down my pothole riddled street. They often have artificial sounding lows, with glassy unmusical highs, and no midrange character. I’ve always been a 2x15 fan, and you guys managed to capture that great sound in box that I can carry with one hand.

But even better, I now have the speed and immediacy of the smaller speakers without the beamy quality of an 8x10, or its corresponding pillowy tonal coloration that was never my thing. And thank you for offering products without tweeters! There are still some of us who prefer the sound of upper mids coming from a larger speaker. I’m back to using my Ashdown Mag 600, which pairs wonderfully with your cabinet. My ’64 P-Bass now has a great British accent. Keep up the good work, and keep us old-school guys in mind with your next gen!
Cheers

Super Compact - August 2015 (UK)

Since picking it up from your workshop, I've now gigged the SuperComp a few times, with both the P-bass and the upright, and have to say I'm over the moon with it. Can't believe the quality and clarity of sound, and the amazing depth from a single 12". Teamed with a TC Classic 450 head, the combination works incredibly well for me.

Can't imagine ever needing anything else, unless it's another BF cab, and will be delighted to endorse the brand at every opportunity.
Kind regards

Super Twin - July 2015 (UK)

Many thanks for getting the Super Twin to me on Friday, allowing me to use it on 2 gigs over the weekend. I paired it with an Aguilar Tonehammer 500 head and it really gives off a great sound. It's warm, punchy, loud and clear including the low end notes and octave runs. I play in a 7 piece band and the bass was so clear as an individual instrument. Our sound guy was amazed at the weight, the thud and the clarity and makes the whole band sound so much better, money very well spent was his conclusion.
One thing that is slightly nagging me a tiny bit, should I have gone for the Big Twin? I'm not sure I need anything else but what extra would I get out of a Big Twin, if anything at all with a 500 head? Obviously budget was a factor when deciding what to get, but for an extra £200 would this have been more worthwhile in the long run? I think if the Big Twin didn't exist I'd be perfectly happy with the Super Twin and not give any other cab a second thought!
I'd appreciate your thoughts... Many thanks.

Paul

[Barefaced response: Glad its performing well! You wouldn't get any more out of the BT2 - it goes higher and a bit lower too but that's not what you need tonally. Would just give you a bigger box to carry and a slightly lighter wallet! ;-)]

Super Compact - July 2015 (USA)

I'm delighted with the cabinet.  Played an outdoor gig and brought along my old 4x10 cabinet just in case.  Didn't use the 4x10.  My only complaint with the Super Compact is that its clarity revealed that my playing is sloppier than I'd realized. :-)

Super Compact - July 2015 (UK)

It's been a good month with my barefaced super compact.. I'm running it with a orange bass terror and a good amount of grindy overdrive from a cog effects knightfall 66 pedal. The cab sounds really focused and clear.. Really pleased with how the cab works with my setup. I would like a bit more volume so i think in the future I may get a second SuperCompact but for the size of the cab and the weight it's a great cab!
I have been recommending Barefaced to every bassist I chat to!
Thanks

Got cab today looks great and cant believe how light it is!!(...)The guitarist kept saying “is your bass too loud” to which I replied “no your amp cant keep up” ha ha!! Payback's a bitch.. Usually I say to him he’s too loud or quiet and get the “you worry about playing the bass” now he’s working about both for me.

Super Compact - June 2015 (USA)

I love love love the cabinet. It's easily the best gear investment I've made, and has completely changed my gigging existence in the city. Beyond sounding completely fabulous, I can't believe how portable it is. I live in a 4th floor walkup, and I no longer dread taking my own rig to a show or hauling it through the subway. It is truly as advertised, and I'm happy to be an evangelist for the brand where I can.
Best regards

Super Compact - June 2015 (UK)

Just to let you know I have done loads of gigs with my Super Compact and whoever it was said that it will be the last bass cab you will ever own was spot on.
Moreover, I get a couple of gigs each year on guitar. I did one last night and out of interest I weighed my 16in wide 15 watt Fender guitar combo on the bathroom scales. Its about 3lb heavier than the S Compact cab. Impressive!

Super Compact - June 2015 (UK)

The Super Compact arrived and my first impressions are out of this world! It's almost comical how light it is. Sounds great with my limited time playing in my apartment. Had to keep the volume pretty low so I don't get evicted. I'll put it through it's paces this weekend with gigs on Friday and Saturday night. Thank you so much for the fast shipping, outstanding product, and your courteous communication. Cheers!

The cab is excellent, although not sure I will be able to keep it.  My house felt like it was moving when I played it at the weekend, and my neighbour mentioned that he reckons he could feel a minor earth tremor. If there is any structural damage I might have to call bassdamagelawyers4U.

I'm really fascinated by its sound compared to its size and weight. It could cover my low freq very significant than my previous cabs.Well, like they say, cost equals quality.Totally enjoying this new baby, too bad can't buy them all, lol.Thank you for this new unbelievable experience.

Super Compact - April 2015 (UK)

My Generation 3 Super Compact is amazing (I mean amazing in the original sense I am 69). It is the best bass cab I have ever had. Easy to carry through doors easy to get into the boot of a small car easy to carry from car to gig and after the gig easy to carry back to the car and then out of the boot again late at night. The power handling and frequency response and attack and punch everything I have ever wanted from a bass cab. Its all there.

Super Compact - April 2015 (UK)

Thank you for such efficient service, Alex. Have to say, compared to the Gen 1 Compact and Midget, this looks a little tighter all round.  Finish is better, handles, feet look more rugged.  Can’t wait to try it out!
Thanks

Paul

[Barefaced response: Glad you like it - we've put a lot of work into making the perceived/cosmetic quality as good as the quality of the engineering/construction, whilst also making the new cabs more robust for hard gigging]

Used it at rehearsal last night, so first time at decent volume.  Tonally I reckon it does exactly what it says on the tin and exactly what I hoped for – it sounds like I was using the Compact and Midget together.  But somehow tighter and more focussed?  I don’t have the vocabulary but I think you must know what I mean.  My woody-toned Precision sounds better than it ever has done, anyway.  In the interim I have changed my amp to a TC Electronic RH750 from a Classic 450 for the extra headroom as I am down to the one cab.  I pushed the volume a bit at one point and everyone in the room was amazed that such a little thing can be so loud!  So – top marks from me – a superb 5 star product.  My ears and my lower back salute you. Cheers

Super Twin - March 2015 (Canada)

I just got the Super Twin this past Friday and luckily was able to experience that same night, and I just wanted to mention how impressed I was with it. The size and weight of it is so deceiving, and our drummer looked at it wondering if it was worthy of rock. His opinion changed rather quickly when I dug into it for our power set, both our singer and drummer were absolutely blown away. I can't imagine using any other cabinet for the rest of my playing days (aka death bed) and I am selling my previously loved cabinet ASAP. Congratulations to Barefaced and Alex for creating a product worthy of bass domination.

Super Twin - February 2015 (Greece)

Hi Alex
I got it in my hands in Tuesday, the next day i dropped it in our tomb-studio and we played with the band for about 3 hours of loud over driven music. At start I made a really great sound out of my amp but when we started after 5 minutes I had the perfect sound at least for the flavour my ears love to taste. And so it went, the next days I plugged a few basses with different sounds and tunings and everything was more than great. In general I'm totally satisfied, for the first time I listen and feel the low frequencies so nice and the mids are great too. All guys playing bass in our studio said the same and they are very excited with the outcome. So next task is to drive it louder in a gig.So yes the super twin is a great cab ! Thanks a lot Alex.

Super Twin - January 2015 (UK)

Very, very impressive!!
I've got the last gig tonight of a five week run. It has performed brilliantly. Wherever you stand it's crystal clear, and I like that. Something that has just dawned on me. Is it designed to only be stood up? Or could I attach some feet and lay it down? The only reason I ask this is because my amp would sit better on it. If not it really doesn't matter.
Cheers

Andy.

[Barefaced responds: Yes, it's designed to be stood up - put it on its side and you'll get wider vertical dispersion and narrower horizontal dispersion, so more floor and ceiling bounce causing reflected sound mud and less clarity around the room due to less direct sound out to the left and right. Having the speakers vertical sends the sound where you want it and not where you don't.]

Super Compact - December 2014 (UK)

I thought I'd give you a quick update on how the cab's going.
The tone works especially well on upright, providing good depth which is easily controlled, very natural sound. Previous cabinets I've had change character quite a lot as they get louder - this one doesn't, it just gets louder! Compared to my Fane Sovereign 15-400 loaded box, it seems to have more sensitivity where it matters and just sounds better, especially close up.
I'm yet to push it very hard, but at one reasonably loud gig it coped much better than a previous 12 I had loaded with a Beyma 12G40 in the same room.
Happy customer!

Super Compact - November 2014 (UK)

After my first gig with the Super C last night I just got an email from the boss thanking me saying that my bass playing gets better and better. Moreover, the drummer last night, who is about the same age as my son, and has played in bands all round Europe with a great bassist, gave me a hug after the gig thanking me for nice bass work.As for me, the Super C is as close as is possible to get for portability and performance. There is no boom anywhere, even close to the back wallIs smooth warm and anything you give it. All notes on the bass high and low are clear. Worth every penny.

Super Twin - November 2014 (UK)

Received the cab today, and can I just say you guys are amazing!!

Now I'm not the best bassist on the planet and have so much to learn after only playing for a year and being 35 and having possibly some sort of life crisis, but oh my god, it is amazing, my ear is very untrained, but the tone is so warm and gentle, it is like cadburys chocolater dripping through my ears, the brassy low tone to the higher regions. I just love the sound and it looks amazing too.

Thank you so much for such an amazing product!! Definitely another happy customer.

Super Twin - November 2014 (UK)

Just a quick note to say thanks for managing to get it to me before my big gig. It turned up early on Saturday and I loved the look straight out of the box. Plugged it into my Orange bass terror, and what a sound! Really pleased that the wife was out,  as its really loud;)Couldn't wind it up until the evening gig; outdoor stage, 30Kw PA and  3000  soggy punters. It sounded amazing, very clear crisp mids which cut through really well, no matter where I was standing. The sound guys( all pro's, who had never seen one before)  were amazed at just how much air it could move, as well as the clarity of the sound, especially considering we were in a field. Its really light as well, which after my ABM  4x10 ( nowhere near as loud/clear with exactly the same amp) is a true revelation. Thanks again

Super Twin - October 2014 (UK)

Thanks again for sorting the cab out quickly. Used it last night on a notoriously difficult stage for sound. Beautiful depth, warmth and clarity. Ended up dialling the amp flatter as the night went on and because of my enthusiasm was told to turn down to "stun" by a bandleader who had the temerity to actually want to hear other instruments as well. It's all i hoped for in volume but much more in terms of quality of sound. I'm a very happy punter.

Cheers,

Jerry

Super Twin - October 2014 (Germany)

I am still ridiculously happy with my Super Twin cabinet purchased last year. Unfortunately, whilst carrying the cab into an Irish pub, I had to jump out of the way of a cyclist and dinged a small chunk out of the exterior coating and a millimeter or two into the wood of the cabinet. The damage is minor, but the coating has been damaged and wood is exposed. Can you recommend a repair method? Is it possible for me to re-treat the damaged area? The chip is about the size of a fingernail. It is at the bottom of the cab and I am concerned about moisture finding its way into the wood. The cab is still fully functional and as impressive as ever.
Thanks

Steven

[Barefaced Response: If it's not too obvious then a black whiteboard marker can hide it pretty well. Don't worry about moisture - I made some garage doors out of this ply about 4 years ago, never got around to painting them and they're only now starting to suffer badly from being constantly exposed to the weather. Glad the cab is performing well!]

Sounds pure magic in the living room! Now out of the box I'm impressed (even the packaging is impressive) that there is no compromise on quality control. I previously fitted my J-bass with Lindy Fralin Pbass neck and Lindy Fralin Bridge pickups and La Bella 49 69 89 109 to get the best out of my old Compact which worked for me and the bands.

I actually just took it down to the OzBass forum get together and the consensus is it’s amazing. It sparked a lot of interest from the guys which will hopefully turn into some business for you. Can’t speak highly enough of how good it is and the combination of the Mesa and the Super Twin is about as perfect a pairing as I could have hoped for. Thanks

Super Compact - August 2014 (USA)

Hi! After 2 months of playing...WOW. In both indoor and outdoor playing....the main thing I have noticed is the increased volume at the high end [high c to double high c] and more importantly the uniform tone across all strings at the upper level. Previously there was a drab sound when when I shifted...not tooo bad but noticeable. I have D'Addario strings. The G soloist string broke before Your speaker came. I substituted the old hybrid G and found no noticeable difference. Am running the GK fusion with pre at 10, contour at 10 Treble at 1 bass at 1 and midranges at 10-11 or less [it is a heavily midrange instrument] All of My fellow musicians have been highly impressed with the tone. Is there any way to take the high end volume further? I noticed increasing volume helps a lot. Thanks a lot!
Roger

[Barefaced responds : Glad you're liking the cab! Now that the cab has broken in that'll be how it sounds for good. The increased treble as you turn the volume up is simply due to the Fletcher-Munson effect - it isn't the tone of the cab changing but how your ears work!]

-----

Super Compact - July 2014 (USA)

It took some fiddling and break in time, but I've got the cab dialed in with a sound I really dig. Having a parametric mid control was pretty helpful (running a Genz Shuttle 9.0 now). I'm amazed at how much the low mids control the overall output of the cab. The tone I'm at now isn't quite what I envisioned. Regardless, I'm pretty happy, now that I've got the feel for how the cab takes EQ. Thanks for your help. I'm very happy with my sound. Thanks

Hi guys, I am still loving my cab, no matter what head or bass I pair it with. My best investment of 2013, no doubt.

Steve

-----

Super Twin - May 2014 (UK)

The cab is working great, at first I thought there was something loose cos I was getting rattling noises - then I realised that an E flat seems to be the resonant frequency of my amp case ;) I get this huge bottom end that I've never had before, makes the band sound so much bigger. Easily bright enough without the tweeter too - in fact, I've found myself turning the treble down from its previous settings.
I love being able to move the cab one-handed, hopefully no more Physio trips after a gig!
Cheers,
Steve

Super Compact - April 2014 (UK)

I pushed the SC and Puma combination at our rehearsal on Thursday and it performed brilliantly! It was plenty loud enough with both passive and active basses and had plenty of clean headroom for the kind of gigging volumes we play at (actually at rehearsal the rest of the band said it went far louder than needed – payback time J). Any concerns I had have been completely resolved and I am very happy with the performance in a band situation. Your cabs really are fantastic. I have to say too, the ability to be able to really trial your cabs is immensely valuable and enabled me to re-calibrate my hearing and determine the sound I really wanted all along (but perhaps didn’t know it) something you just can’t do in a music shop. So I am all set and very happy with performance. In the event I do ever need more output then I’ll order another SC. In the meantime thank you and the team at BF and I wish you every success with a brilliant product.
Best regards

Super Twin - April 2014 (Netherlands)

It has arrived today! First impression: damn I am impressed ... Damn! And that was just the looks. My parents (cos it was delivered there) were equally charmed by the Super Twin's appearance and said I did right in upgrading to a silver cloth :-) I spent some time with it just now... It is everything people said it would be and yet so much more! Great, clear sound - I hear every mistake I make :-( I have a rehearsal this Friday and a rehearsal and a gig next week. After those, I will do a "user review" and write a little blurb for you to use (or not) on your website - I will do it in English, French and Dutch, so you can take your pick :-)I, sir, am a happy customer!!!Now to get funds for a lighter head :-D

Super Twin - April 2014 (UK)

I've had the Super Twin for a while now, using it for a handful of gigs and many hours of rehearsals with a Pink Floyd tribute band. The sound is great. I'm using an Ashdown MAG600 to drive the cab with a Tech21 VT Bass DI as a preamp. The cab has great depth and clarity, and will go brighter than I would ever need, too. The construction seems a little flimsy and the thin panels can be easily damaged, but as it's so light and easy to handle, knocks are few and far between. Overall, I'm very happy!

Super Twin - April 2014 (UK)

The cab is immense by the way. I keep meaning to post some kind words on your Facebook page but I'm still discovering how good it can be. All that clarity and bottom end has totally revolutionised my approach to tone and eq. I'm now getting serious punch and cut through around 1.5khz which means I can roll bass and treb in and out to colour my sound EXACTLY HOW I WANT. As someone who's spent years running relatively flat eq to get the best balance of fullness and cut through (but nowhere near enough of either), this is a revelation. Genuinely life-changing. She just went through her first recording session last week and, from the early mixes, everything is sounding very transparent (aka "nowhere to hide!" ;D) Last time I recorded was through a '70s Ampeg Portaflex stack. The highest praise I can give is that so far I'm more impressed with the results from my Barefaced ST and Genz Benz Streamliner. Less tube warmth and breakup, as expected, but so much more punch and intensity. Seriously, if this thing was taking a full-tube Ampeg I think the world might implode.

Anyway, here's my last thought. And I'm not sure what this says about me. But where I've enjoyed her most is standing out front, listening to support bands running our backline. I used to go to so many gigs and think "shit, I want THAT sound". And now I only think it when I hear someone else playing my rig.

Thanks

Charlie

Super Compact - April 2014 (UK)

Thanks very much for your email and thanks for arranging to send the cab sticker identification plates.
The cabs are still awesome! We recently played our annual Back to the 60’s rock night at Bognor Regis to a full capacity crowd of over 500 punters - we had 5  r ’n'  r bands playing and we provided the backline amps etc. Each of the bassist asked for details of the Barefaced cabs and all reckoned they provided the best bass sound they had ever heard. The place was packed with people on the dance floor and lots standing around the stage. The sound from the bass cabs was as clear at the back of the ballroom than as it was at the front of the stage - quite incredible - never had that happened before with other bass cabs. By the way - have you got the bass cab covers yet?  I don’t want to get ‘em spoiled when carting them around on gigs - at the mo one cab is covered in an Ashdown cover (not good publicity) and the other in the plastic bag it was in when I opened up the cartage box you sent the 2nd cab to me. Finally, all the bands I see ask if you will be doing a guitar amp any time soon - there would be a lot of takers I reckon. Keep up the amazing work - you’re simply the best!!
Cheers

Super Twin - March 2014 (Netherlands)

It is a wonderful cab. Clear and precise. Loosened up speakers makes a world of difference. The sound then really speaks and it gives so much more volume. I removed the grill and turned up my amp loud, dampened the strings with my left hand and hammered with my right hand fist on the strings above the pickups for a while ( like a kick drum). I could see the cones vibrating deeper and deeper. After that the sound is so much more alive. What also makes me so happy is the weight. Unbelievable that you can make this possible without giving in in the performance of the cab. This makes gigging and rehearsing so much more easy. I'm going to recommend Barefaced to everybody here.Thank you very much for making such wonderful cabinets.Keep up the good work !! Best regards

I would like to say how pleased I am with my new super compact, received in perfect condition thanks to the excellent packaging, it looks great with its generation 3 handle and new design steel grille . It is loosening up nicely now and sounds very full and loud, it is very clear and articulate, I like it so much I have ordered another one to keep it company. Thanks

It does look the biz, pleased with how the stack fits together.
I’m no sound expert. Deeper definitely and richer was my immediate reaction. Took to rehearsal and played at usual volume setting – didn’t have to turn up – sounded as above. Bands reaction was that it wasn’t as “tight” as with the single cab – slightly woolier. I’m still finding my way around the BH500 and have added the BDDI pedal so will have to play with.Very pleased, prob purchased all the cabs I need now! Any advice on the above welcome. And cheers for the FB post – appreciated!
