2014 - Generation 3

Retro SIX 10 - December 2014 (USA)

So – what to say? Sonically I’m blown away thus far. As you may recall, the Six10 is replacing a Bag End Q10X-D and I quickly realized what a one-trick-pony, ‘90s sounding’ cab the Bag End is. With the Six10, to my ears, it was like I suddenly regained my lows and (yes!) low-mids and eliminated the ‘glassy’ high end that seems to characterize the Bag End. I’m also thrilled that I seem to have much more tonal control via knob tweaks on all my basses and my amp, almost like my gear were upgraded or perhaps, for lack of a better word, refined. Unfortunately, as you also may recall, my current living situation prevents me from cranking the amp to *really* test its capabilities but thus far, at ‘bedroom volumes,’ it’s already not only what you promised, but quite a bit more. (A quick ‘test’ at around 10:00 volume on the 45-watt Matchless and I thought I was going to shatter out the windows and bring things down off the walls…) In a nutshell I’m completely satisfied and only expect to be further floored once I can turn the beast loose. I also want to mention that fit and finish are top-notch and the shipping/packaging were first-rate, as was all communication with you as the process played out. And the weight – my friend, as we say, you’ve knocked it out of the park…
That’s in for now. I can assure you I’m absolutely thrilled with the unit – a superior piece of workmanship on you and your team’s part that is one of the crowning jewels of my ‘ultimate rig.’ I still do plan on singing its praises on TalkBass but that’s going to need to wait until after the first of the year; but you will receive a stellar review.
Cheers and thanks!

Super Midget - December 2014 (UK)

Thanks for taking the time to reply and sharing some insight and advice - I'm more than happy to be educated on these matters!
I think previous cabs I've had have not handled eq well - I forget I now have one of the best cabs in my hands! I will experiment and thanks for pointing the obvious out!
Although early days (and I know it will take a little while for my ear to adjust) I'm very impressed with the cab. Early inclinations give me the idea that it is going to be more than capable. I'm totally blown away by your whole company and wish you every success (and proud to say I'm a purchaser). I have already been pushing your website on to people I know!
Thank you again

Gareth

Super Compact - December 2014 (UK)

I thought i'd give you a quick update on how the cab's going.
The tone works especially well on upright, providing good depth which is easily controlled, very natural sound. Previous cabinets i've had change character quite a lot as they get louder - this one doesn't, it just gets louder! Compared to my Fane Sovereign 15-400 loaded box, it seems to have more sensitivity where it matters and just sounds better, especially close up.
I'm yet to push it very hard, but at one reasonably loud gig it coped much better than a previous 12 I had loaded with a Beyma 12G40 in the same room.
Happy customer!

Super Compact - November 2014 (UK)

After my first gig with the Super C last night I just got an email from the boss thanking me saying that my bass playing gets better and better. Moreover, the drummer last night, who is about the same age as my son, and has played in bands all round Europe with a great bassist, gave me a hug after the gig thanking me for nice bass work.As for me, the Super C is as close as is possible to get for portability and performance. There is no boom anywhere, even close to the back wallIts smooth warm and anything you give itAll notes on the bass high and low are clear. Worth every penny.

Big Twin 2 - November 2014 (UK)

I have to say I was totally impressed the minute I plugged in that what I got was just an amplified version of the bass in its natural state but as loud as you like and undistorted.  I never had that before to start with and although it's not 'my' sound I realised I was working with a blank canvas which is reassuring, it's clearly an excellent cab throughout.
I'm sure I'll get there with it with some tweaking and I may need to pick your brains further but I'll let you know, I can see it's definitely there once I work out how to dial in to it.
I'll let you know how I get on... Oh, and thanks for throwing in the lead!
I'll be in touch,
All the best,
Hugh.

Retro SIX 10 - November 2014 (Australia)

Basically the cab is amazing. Exactly the sound I had in my head - sounds easily as good as my old ampeg 8x10. I can't believe how light it is. It's an easy one person lift.
I've gigged it 3 times so far - and I've got a biggish festival Sunday night headline slot on the 7th of December. I'll try and get some shots of it in action for you.
One question, if I'm playing a smaller venue - do you think it would be bad to lay it on its side? I haven't had to do it yet, but have done this previously with an 8x10 - but there are some funny shape/small stages in Melbourne.
Cheers,
Phil

Big Baby 2 - November 2014 (UK)

Cabs are amazing, really liking the bb2 it makes such a difference with the tweeter, the cab alone is enough for just about all of my indoor wedding gigs. Slapping the compact on top gives me extra juice if I need it :). The PJB head has a very wide graphic eq and the cab deals with it all well.
All the best
Simon.

Big Baby 2 - November 2014 (UK)

I had an hour with the house to myself today (and all the neighbours out, too), so I decided to have a play with the rig. I hadn't touched the settings from the end of the gig in the hangar.Blimey.Even allowing for the fact that rigs always sound 200% louder in the house, it was completely epic. Stuff fell off shelves, the sofa set off round the room and the cat legged it.It turns out the breaking up I'd heard was the preamp (iPod based) driving the F1 a bit hard - I was able to tweak it a little and get ridiculous SPL with clean, thick tones out of the cab.I'm gigging in a 'normal' sized gig (function room) next weekend, I'm sure it'll be more than enough there, too. That 12" is something very special...you're right to be proud of it.
Cheers,

Mark

Big Baby 2 - November 2014 (UK)

We are really pleased with the BB2. The sound is really clear and punchy and it is so light and compact. The bass is so much tighter than our Ampeg 4x10 classic, and it doesn’t have any boominess which can fog up the bass definition around the stage and venue. Even with the compact dimensions there is really good bass extension and the high power handling means it goes at least as loud as the Ampeg 4x10. A great product!
Cheers,

Andy

Big Twin 2 - November 2014 (USA)

Just want to let you know that I've used the cab at 2 rehearsals and 1 gig. Beautiful cab. Completely open sound with all the deep complexity I was looking for. You really got it right man. Thank you. It really helps make the connection between thought and sound possible (if that makes sense).
All the best,

Paul

Super Twin - 14th November (UK)

Received the cab today, and can I just say you guys are amazing!!
Now I'm not the best bassist on the planet and have so much to learn after only playing for a year and being 35 and having possibly some sort of life crisis, but oh my god, it is amazing, my ear is very untrained, but the tone is so warm and gentle, it is like cadburys chocolater dripping through my ears, the brassy low tone to the higher regions. I just love the sound and it looks amazing too.
Thank you so much for such an amazing product!!
Definitely another happy customer.
Yours

Tim

Big Baby 2 - 11th November (UK)

I continue to be very confident wiht my Big Baby 2 for double bass and 5-string fretless work. I.e. very glad I bought it. Not doing noisy gigs, so an EA Doubler is just about perfect as a 'weighs next to nothing' 2-channel amp. (Slightly noisy fan if you're practising solo, but inaudible on a gig). Wishing you much success in your new factory and marketing endeavours,
Regards,

Chris

Super Twin - 10th November (UK)

Just a quick note to say thanks for managing to get it to me before my big gig. It turned up early on Saturday and I loved the look straight out of the box. Plugged it into my Orange bass terror, and what a sound! Really pleased that the wife was out,  as its really loud;)Couldn't wind it up until the evening gig; outdoor stage, 30Kw PA and  3000  soggy punters. It sounded amazing, very clear crisp mids which cut through really well, no matter where I was standing. The sound guys( all pro's, who had never seen one before)  were amazed at just how much air it could move, as well as the clarity of the sound, especially considering we were in a field. Its really light as well, which after my ABM  4x10 ( nowhere near as loud/clear with exactly the same amp) is a true revelation. Thanks again,
Sean

Big Baby 2 - 9th November (UK)

I've been the proud owner of one of your Big Baby II's for a while now and want to thank you for producing a fantastic cab. It took me a few seconds to realise the rotary control for the waveguide worked in reverse and am intrigued as to how it works. There seems to be something going on within your "complex crossover" that I can't quite get my head round, and even though the cab sounds great no matter how it's set, I'd be very grateful if you could spare a moment to explain it's action at different settings. (Yes, I am a bit OCD) :)
Best regards mate,
Remi

[Barefaced responds: We'll put a link to the new manual as soon as we've finished it.]

Super Twin - 31st October (UK)

Thanks again for sorting the cab out quickly. Used it last night on a notoriously difficult stage for sound. Beautiful depth, warmth and clarity. Ended up dialling the amp flatter as the night went on and because of my enthusiasm was told to turn down to "stun" by a bandleader who had the temerity to actually want to hear other instruments as well. It's all i hoped for in volume but much more in terms of quality of sound. I'm a very happy punter.
Cheers,

Jerry

Super Twin - 28th October (Germany)

I am still ridiculously happy with my Super Twin cabinet purchased last year. Unfortunately, whilst carrying the cab into an Irish pub, I had to jump out of the way of a cyclist and dinged a small chunk out of the exterior coating and a millimeter or two into the wood of the cabinet. The damage is minor, but the coating has been damaged and wood is exposed. Can you recommend a repair method? Is it possible for me to re-treat the damaged area? The chip is about the size of a fingernail. It is at the bottom of the cab and I am concerned about moisture finding its way into the wood. The cab is still fully functional and as impressive as ever.
Thanks

Steven

Barefaced Response: If it's not too obvious then a black whiteboard marker can hide it pretty well. Don't worry about moisture - I made some garage doors out of this ply about 4 years ago, never got around to painting them and they're only now starting to suffer badly from being constantly exposed to the weather. Glad the cab is performing well!

Big Baby 2 - 21st October (UK)

I'm enjoying using my Big Baby 2 cabinet for band rehearsals, practice at home and one gig so far - more on the horizon.
At the moment I have a TC Electronic BH 500 amp which is nominally 500 watts into 4 ohms (I'm told TC's idea of 500 watts may be less than the rest of the world's), presumably about 250 into the 8 ohm BB2. The BH 500 is starting to run out of steam at the typical volume my cover band plays at, which I would describe as medium-loud for pubs but not excessive - no Marshall stacks to compete against.
My question is, what amps would you recommend with a bit more oomph that would make a suitable single BB2 partner? I mostly like a fairly old-school warm tone (my bass is a nice passive J copy with the Fender 60s pickups) with some definition to it and also do the occasional slap tune.
I see the two Orange Terror Bass 500 and 1000 amps have a nifty impedance switch to deliver the full wattage into both 4 and 8 ohms (haven't come across that before), so that seems one place I could look: do you like these, and do you think a) the 500 would be enough and b) would the 1000 would be overkill and potentially speaker-damaging? Your thoughts on this and any other amp recommendations you'd care to make will be gratefully received!
Finally, are there any details of the forthcoming Barefaced bass amp you'd care to share? If it's likely to appear within a year I might even hold on and wait for that.
Yours, a happy customer,
N

[Barefaced responds: I think the GK MB800 is one of the best choices for a versatile lightweight high power head. The Terror Bass are one trick ponies which don't really do clean tones - but great if their tone suits you. As you prefer a warmer tone I'd go for the MB Fusion 800 which is the valvey one. Not sure on amp timelines - don't want to promise anything as it's a completely different manufacturing process to sort out.]

Big Baby 2 - 13th October (UK)

Still lovin the 2 BB2's gigging coupla times a month, just fantastic, I lent them to a couple of bass friends over here in Guernsey who have both done a couple of gigs each with them, and my mate Alan has ordered 2 BB2's from you now, he cant wait to get his hands on them, the other guy is still thinking about it.
Hopefully I can persuade a few more chaps over here to order. I have sold me Mesa cabs now, who needs em when you have Barefaced bass !
All the best and keep up the good work

Super Compact - 12th October (UK)

Sounds pure magic in the living room! Now out of the box I'm impressed (even the packaging is impressive) that there is no compromise on quality control. I previously fitted my J-bass with Lindy Fralin Pbass neck and Lindy Fralin Bridge pickups and La Bella 49 69 89 109 to get the best out of my old Compact which worked for me and the bands.

Compact - 10th October (UK)

Been using the compact on the last 10 gigs. Even Carlsberg could not make a speaker as good as this! Can't wait for my new one, but I don't think I will need to plug It in-- It will be on stage, just to look at ! How can one twelve inch speaker be this good ?

After get my cab in January of this year, thought i give you an update.Having used my Super Midget with my Tc electronic RH 450 bass head with my fender Jazz deluxe 24 and my Tanglewood caynon 2 fretless, it is great to a have a cab  small enough a carry one handed and yet loud enough to cut through the mix.Having using it in practice sessions and for live performances, in small rooms, small halls and pubs, and playing jazz and rock/blues covers, i have found it to be an excellent piece of kit, worth every penny. Thanks for all your help  and a Big Thank you for my cab.

Big Baby 2 - 17th September (Canada)

First time playing the cab last night with one of my bands. Wow! It is everything that I was hoping it would be. I have played it at home and loved it but the 2 real tests are practices and gigs. It passed the first one with flying colors. I'm not gigging until the 27th so that will be test 2. That's with a different band.Full, tight low end. Super present in the sound. I'm thrilled! And so light.I'm playing it with the new Demeter head and this is the sound that I've been looking for.
Thank you,

Paul

Big Baby 2/Super Midget - 12th September (Sweden)

It is good to hear from you. You know, one of my weak points is to describe tone in words, even in my mother language Swedish. So I'm afraid to say that I’m even worse in English. But I know when I hear a tone that I like and BB2 and SM gives me plenty of what I like. I think what appeals to me the most is that the BB2 in a way produces the sound of my basses as they sound (and feel) without amplification. The tone is very natural. SM has the same quality as the BB2 but feels a bit like it looks. The tone feels a bit smaller and not as wide, open and deep as BB2. In combination, BB2 and SM, the stack retains the above features and I think I get a denser and maybe a bit thicker core in tone but with the depth and broad accurate reproduction of tone from the BB2. Think it works extremely well in a live situation. Does this make any sense to you or am I way off in describing tone in a way that are understandably? Hope you get something out of my thoughts. Anyway, thanks for the amazing speakers who inspires me a lot in my music making.
All the best,
Lars

Super Twin - 11th September (Australia)

I actually just took it down to the OzBass forum get together and the consensus is it’s amazing. It sparked a lot of interest from the guys which will hopefully turn into some business for you. Can’t speak highly enough of how good it is and the combination of the Mesa and the Super Twin is about as perfect a pairing as I could have hoped for.
Thanks,

Pete.

Big Baby 2 - 10th September (UK)

The Cab arrived safe and sound yesterday.  Looks great and sounds pretty good too (although not properly tested yet.  (and of course I can pick up with one hand – get in!)A few quick questions.
1.There are two speak-on connectors at the back.  Should I use one, both?
2.If I use one which one should I use?
3.My head is an Ashdown Mag 600 (4Ohms) – it has two outputs on the back.  I’ve only used one, but could I use both into both inputs on the speaker?
Cheers,

Ash.

[Barefaced responds: Just use one speakon, doesn't matter which. Same on the amp end!]

Big Baby 2 - 3rd September (Norway)

I've now had the pleasure of using my BB2 in a couple of pretty loud band rehersals, and I must say I'm still VERY IMPRESSED. It's just what I was hoping for! I've had one minor issue:There was a rattling/vibrating noise at certain frequencies, and when tapping my finger on the steel front grill, I heard the same noise. Therefore I unscrewed the front grill, and it turned out that the white cover paper on the grill gasket had not been removed - see attached picture. After peeling off the white paper on all four sides and replacing the grill, all noise is gone, and everything is fine.--> I assume that the white paper should normally have been removed during assembly? Again, thanks for a wonderful piece of gear!
Best regards

[Barefaced responds: Thanks for the update! We had actually chosen to leave the paper on there because it was damped by the foam tape and thus silent and it made it easy for customers to remove the grill in the (unlikely!) event of blowing a driver - however you're the second person to tell us about hearing noise from it (admittedly out of a few hundred cabs) so we'll remove it in future. Glad you're liking the cab though!]

Super Compact - 18th August (USA)

Hi! After 2 months of playing...WOW. In both indoor and outdoor playing....the main thing I have noticed is the increased volume at the high end [high c to double high c] and more importantly the uniform tone across all strings at the upper level. Previously there was a drab sound when when I shifted...not tooo bad but noticible. I have D` addario strings. The G soloist string broke before Your speaker came. I substituted the old hybrid G and found no noticible difference. Am running the GK fusion with pre at 10, contour at 10 Treble at 1 bass at 1 and midranges at 10-11 or less [it is a heavily midrange instrument] All of My fellow musicians have been highly impressed with the tone. Is there any way to take the high end volume further? I noticed increasing volume helps a lot. Thanks a lot!
Roger

[Barefaced responds : Glad you're liking the cab! Now that the cab has broken in that'll be how it sounds for good. The increased treble as you turn the volume up is simply due to the Fletcher-Munson effect - it isn't the tone of the cab changing but how your ears work!]

-----

Super Midget - 8th August (Italy)

Super Midget S/N M028 arrived Monday of last week, safe and sound: thanks very much. I have since tried the cab with my old, pre-Fender SWR workingman's 12 combo, and a few new heads. Today I bought an EA iAmp Micro which, as Alex wrote in an earlier mail is very clean and precise and seems to suit the Super Midget down to the ground. I was sorely tempted by an Aguilar TH 500 which is not really clean but it in a way I really like, and it went really very, very loud indeed. On reflection though, I really don't need it that loud and I can always add the TH pedal later on if I want that TH tone, and one (or even more - the micro does 2 ohm...) cabs if I find I am still too quiet. So, thanks very much to you all for the top-quality product and helpful advice and the best of luck in your new workspace.  I'll post a photo of the cab on facebook when I get myself organized.
Cheers,

Paul

-----

Big Twin Two - 2nd August (USA)

I love the sound. The compression driver is so much better sounding than the horn on my old SWR. The highs are more complimentary and less harsh, even with the driver all the way up. And the lows, thick and tight. Really happy with the sound.

Big Twin 2 - 30th July (USA)

The bass cabinet is stunning! Beautifully crafted, neat and tidy, a very clean fabrication indeed! I just spent a short time getting to know it…played my P-Bass through a Glockenklang Blue Soul head (650 watts @ 4ohms) – amazing! Zero noise, crisp and clear definition of the notes I played, outstanding response to even the lightest touch on the strings! I was able to play softer with better technique – needless to say I am impressed! I will put her through all the paces upon my return with various heads and give you a full report. Although a bit pricey, I feel very comfortable with the purchase and know that I will be served well for years to come. The big problem now is, I will probably order another cabinet (different size) in the near future.

Big Baby 2 - 28th July (UK)

I hope all is well with you. I have used my Big Baby 2 in a band setting now and it has been great. I would like to get a good cover for it - you mentioned that somebody does them. Could you remind me who?
Many thanks

Super Compact - 28th July (USA)

It took some fiddling and break in time, but I've got the cab dialed in with a sound I really dig. Having a parametric mid control was pretty helpful (running a Genz Shuttle 9.0 now). I'm amazed at how much the low mids control the overall output of the cab. The tone I'm at now isn't quite what I envisioned. Regardless, I'm pretty happy, now that I've got the feel for how the cab takes EQ. Thanks for your help. I'm very happy with my sound.
Thanks,

Adam

-----

Super Midget - 17th July (USA)

The Super Midget on top of the Super Compact is ace. I'm finally getting the kind of solid, punchy rock tone I've been after for years. Into the pair of cabs, my Genz Benz Streamliner feels much more powerful with volume to spare. I can easily compete with a loud rock drummer and a pair of distorted guitars in a large hall. The tonal nuance of my Yamaha Attitude comes through and I find myself encouraged to experiment with more articulation in my playing. I'm having a blast with this rig.

Super Midget - 24th June (USA)

The cab arrived today in perfect shape.  First impression is a resounding "Wow!"Another great product from the U.K.  This and my Status bass almost make up for the budget-level Land Rover I bought a few years back! Thanks for the assistance, great product, and speedy service.

Big Baby 2 - 10th June (UK)

Played first gig with two BB2’s at the weekendOutdoor festival, both bandmates, sound crew and assorted muso’s said the bass sound (not the playing) was amazing! I should have some pictures soon but wanted to thank you once again for rescuing my sound, your product and service are just outstanding. Oh, and my back thanks you as well :-) Regards

-----

Big Baby 2 - 5th June (Finland)

I received my BB2 today, took it to my rehearsal space and tried it out with an Aguilar DB750 and a Markbass Little Mark Tube. With the Aguilar I was just smiling, the BB2 allowed me to hear the glorious sound of my favorite head very accurately and my test basses (a Sandberg California w/maple fb and a J-Retro pre and a 1970 Mustang bass) sounded very much like.. themselves. As expected, the Markbass could not match the fantastic sound and output of the Aggie at all. I could experience the characteristic sound and "feel" of the MB head better than ever, though. I plugged my double bass via a Headway pre and, after some playing, got the feeling that the BB2 can produce probably the most controlled, big and tight fundamental I've ever heard in a compact bass cabinet. Just amazing... Also, the cab allows the signal to be heard very accurately. If you have a problem with your sound (be it your fingers, your bass or your pickup system), this cab will not hide it. Personally, it's just what I want.

Big Baby 2 - 3rd June (UK)

Cab arrived last Friday but haven't had time to try it until tonight! One happy bunny, great tone, can't believe you've manged to make it even smaller! Can't really try it at gig volume due to family objections :-) Gigs bit thin on the ground at the mo, hardly anything in June but then quite a few in July and August. Will drop you another line when I've been able to do a comparison. Thanks to you and all the team for a great British product. Best regards,
Andy.

-----

Big Baby 2 - 27th May (UK)

The cab (big baby 2) is fantastic, and performs brilliantly, from low volume to full on gigs. Despite it essentially being a 1x12cab, there is never a hint of the cab failing to deliver. Theportability of the unit is incredible and almost too good to be true!
Richard

-----

Big Twin 2 - 27th May (France)

We had our first gig about a month ago, the cab behaved wonderfully and managed to fill the whole (rather large) venue by itself, which is amazing, especially given the weight. Well worth the wait I think! People are amazed at how it can be so loud, clean and lightweight at the same time. While I'm at it, what amp heads would you suggest that work best with your cabs (Big Twin II particularly)? Not necessarily looking to replace mine (TC RH750), just collecting some ideas for future GAS : )
Thanks again, keep up the good work!
Best regards,
Amir

Super Midget - 23rd May (Spain)

Back plate sticker at home now. The Supermidget is a super cab. Very happy with it in every way.A bandmate asked if you make cabs for guitar; I said no but don´t know if your planning to make them in the near future. He is very interested in them.Best regards

Super Twin - 19th May (Germany)

Hi guys, Thanks for the update.  I am still loving my cab, no matter what head or bass I pair it with. My best investment of 2013, no doubt.

-----

Big Baby 2 - 19th May (Guernsey)

Cabs are ace - esp now with two of them. Love the sound and love the weight ( lack of).
Have a great couple of pub gigs and one guitarist was saying how superb the sound was even though I had moved over to the other side of the stage  for last 2 gigs - he could hear everything crystal clear a sn solid.
I have just got my head round the fact of having such a flat frequency response allows you to boost or cut to get the sound you want rather than fighting a cab with a pronounced  "sound".
Regards
Dave

-----

Big Baby 2 - 17th May (UK)

I've done several gigs with my Big Baby 2 now, including open-air, and with fairly noisy punters; all jazz though, so distinctly civilised volume levels. The clarity of sound, and the confidence that imparts when playing my fretless instruments is the best I've experienced. I'm glad I went for the full-range model. (I got a Roqsolid cover for it, which fits very well). Apart from magic (smaller, even lighter, but same sound) the only improvement I can imagine is to have the same sort of recessed side handles my old Wizzy 12 had, for easier lugging. I'm very pleased I got it, much success to you, and all at Barefaced.
Regards,
Chris

[Barefaced responds: Glad you're liking the cab! No space for recessed side handles because of the port sadly but hopefully the strap handle is tough and comfy and pretty enough.]

-----

Super Twin - 10th May (UK)

The cab is working great, at first I thought there was something loose cos I was getting rattling noises - then I realised that an E flat seems to be the resonant frequency of my amp case ;) I get this huge bottom end that I've never had before, makes the band sound so much bigger. Easily bright enough without the tweeter too - in fact, I've found myself turning the treble down from its previous settings.
I love being able to move the cab one-handed, hopefully no more Physio trips after a gig!
Cheers,
Steve

Initial impressions are that the BB2 sounds bigger, more open, clearer and louder than my old Midget.  All good.  However, (and this is just a very small however) I do miss the mid punch of the Midget... you know that loud car stereo type of thump in the chest (rather than the gut). I undoubtedly will create equalisation strategies to overcome my pangs. For me the main reason to switch to the BB2 was so that I should be equal to most of the type of gig that I am likely to be involved with, something I doubted the Midget could deliver on. On this point I am confident that the BB2 will cut the mustard. Thanks for delivering another goody.
All the best

[Barefaced responds: Glad you're liking it - it can punch like the Midget with the right EQ but obviously it has an awful lot more thump so you'd have to reduce that to feel the same punch, if you see what I mean.]

Big Baby 2 - 3rd May (UK)

Just a quick mail to say thanks for the cabinet. It sounds absolutely brilliant. Used it last night with an LM3 head and a passive Jazz and the response right across the board was so even and clear. Could you explain what the HF knob on the back does? Regards
Danny

[Barefaced Responds: Great stuff! In short, it adjusts the level of the HF driver. However, as you turn it down it also effectively shifts the crossover point so more and more treble comes from the woofer. When it's almost off you get up to about 10kHz coming off the woofer and just the air from the HF driver. Worth experimenting with!]

My cabinet is working awesomely and it's lightness amazes everyone.

'69er/Six10 hybrid - 1st May (Finland)

I love the cab! It sounds perfect and the amount of low end it can push really surprised me!Now, I'm about to record something through it, and was wondering if there's a right (to get it's full sound most accurately) placement for a mic with it.
Thanks! Brilliant work! Timo

[Barefaced responds:Wherever it sounds best! I'd say the top left speaker or the middle left speaker are the best two to mic but get someone to listen with their ear very close whilst you play (quietly!) through it.
Glad you're liking how it performs, it should have a lot more bottom on tap than the normal '69er!]

Super Compact - 22nd April (UK)

I pushed the SC and Puma combination at our rehearsal on Thursday and it performed brilliantly! It was plenty loud enough with both passive and active basses and had plenty of clean headroom for the kind of gigging volumes we play at (actually at rehearsal the rest of the band said it went far louder than needed – payback time J). Any concerns I had have been completely resolved and I am very happy with the performance in a band situation. Your cabs really are fantastic. I have to say too, the ability to be able to really trial your cabs is immensely valuable and enabled me to re-calibrate my hearing and determine the sound I really wanted all along (but perhaps didn’t know it) something you just can’t do in a music shop. So I am all set and very happy with performance. In the event I do ever need more output then I’ll order another SC. In the meantime thank you and the team at BF and I wish you every success with a brilliant product.
Best regards,
Terry

Super Twin - 8th April (Netherlands)

It has arrived today! First impression: damn I am impressed ... Damn! And that was just the looks. My parents (cos it was delivered there) were equally charmed by the Super Twin's appearance and said I did right in upgrading to a silver cloth :-) I spent some time with it just now... It is everything people said it would be and yet so much more! Great, clear sound - I hear every mistake I make :-( I have a rehearsal this Friday and a rehearsal and a gig next week. After those, I will do a "user review" and write a little blurb for you to use (or not) on your website - I will do it in English, French and Dutch, so you can take your pick :-)I, sir, am a happy customer!!!Now to get funds for a lighter head :-D
Cheers,
David

Big Baby 2 - 2nd April (USA)

Getting along wonderfully with my Big Baby 2.  Sound is amazing. Looks gorgeous with silver cloth, really classy. I finally played live last week.  Two words - great clarity.  I kept asking audience members, friends and musicians how it sounds, how I should tweak my sound, and it was frustrating - everyone just said it sounds great, don't change anything! I didn't trust them!  I'm not used to that! What a relief!  My wife (who is a musical novice) said she could hear me more clearly than ever, every note very clearly.  This was playing a coffee house gig with 2 amplified acoustic guitars and amplified vocals, but no other PA support.  The Big Baby did all the work. Low B sounds very smooth, I am using my low D and C frequently to great effect. I enjoy my upper mids much more now when in a band, so I often lower the bass control a bit on my amp and boost upper mids quite a bit on my bass.  It really comes across as a clear growl when in a mix.  When playing solo, I don't do this.  I don't think this is any reflection on a deficiency of the cabinet, but rather an appreciation of how well the cab renders mids.  I have an Audere preamp with Nordstrand Big Single pickups in a Dingwall Z1 bass. I find myself using the Audere Mid-Z more than Lo-Z now, which used to be my favorite, but since anything but Hi-Z cuts treble noticeably, I end up boosting my mids probably to compensate for the Mid-Z.
Thanks for a great cab -
John

Super Twin - 1st April (UK)

I've had the Super Twin for a while now, using it for a handful of gigs and many hours of rehearsals with a Pink Floyd tribute band. The sound is great. I'm using an Ashdown MAG600 to drive the cab with a Tech21 VT Bass DI as a preamp. The cab has great depth and clarity, and will go brighter than I would ever need, too. The construction seems a little flimsy and the thin panels can be easily damaged, but as it's so light and easy to handle, knocks are few and far between. Overall, I'm very happy!

Big Baby 2 still sounds awesome! Clarity and presence and cut without having to resort to high volumes. No low end swampy mush washing across the band when you do push the volume. Effects project clearly. And it looks really cool!
Cheers!

Super Midget - 1st April (UK)

Just a quick feedback on my Super Midget, its Great !! I use it with my Tc electronic RH450 head, and what a great portable comb they make, so light and so easy to carry ,cab in one hand bass in other and amp in bag over shoulder. No more couple of trips to load or unload, no more struggling to carry speaker two handed, struggling to open/close doors. Have used it  with my Tanglewood fretless bass with  tapewound strings, when i play with a jazz group. Nice deep mellow tone really brings out the tone of the bass and strings, and with having the eq on my bass and amp set flat. I have also started jamming with some friends, playing rock and blues stuff, when i jam with these i use my fender Jazz deluxe 24  with RotoSound Swing Bass strings. Again great tone, even with some distortion added. no problem cutting through the mix, with two guitarist play through 2x12 40 watt valve combos, the only thing i would say is, that at the moment the volume is lowish as we jam in a small room, so how it sounds with drummer and guitarist at full flight in pub gig situation i don't know, but am confident i will cut through as i haven't had amp volume even half way yet. I was think of writing a review to put on your site after i had done a couple of gigs with the rock band, so i could give a fair review. Thanks again for your great product.
With many Thanks,

Andy

Super Twin - 1st April (UK)

The cab is immense by the way. I keep meaning to post some kind words on your facebook page but I'm still discovering how good it can be. All that clarity and bottom end has totally revolutionised my approach to tone and eq. I'm now getting serious punch and cut through around 1.5khz which means I can roll bass and treb in and out to colour my sound EXACTLY HOW I WANT. As someone who's spent years running relatively flat eq to get the best balance of fullness and cut through (but nowhere near enough of either), this is a revelation. Genuinely life-changing. She just went through her first recording session last week and, from the early mixes, everything is sounding very transparent (aka "nowhere to hide!" ;D) Last time I recorded was through a '70s Ampeg Portaflex stack. The highest praise I can give is that so far I'm more impressed with the results from my Barefaced ST and Genz Benz Streamliner. Less tube warmth and breakup, as expected, but so much more punch and intensity. Seriously, if this thing was taking a full-tube Ampeg I think the world might implode.
Anyway, here's my last thought. And I'm not sure what this says about me. But where I've enjoyed her most is standing out front, listening to support bands running our backline. I used to go to so many gigs and think "shit, I want THAT sound". And now I only think it when I hear someone else playing my rig.
Thanks,
Charlie

Super Compact - 1st April (UK)

Thanks very much for your email and thanks for arranging to send the cab sticker identification plates.
The cabs are still awesome! We recently played our annual Back to the 60’s rock night at Bognor Regis to a full capacity crowd of over 500 punters - we had 5  r ’n'  r bands playing and we provided the backline amps etc. Each of the bassist asked for details of the Barefaced cabs and all reckoned they provided the best bass sound they had ever heard. The place was packed with people on the dance floor and lots standing around the stage. The sound from the bass cabs was as clear at the back of the ballroom than as it was at the front of the stage - quite incredible - never had that happened before with other bass cabs. By the way - have you got the bass cab covers yet?  I don’t want to get ‘em spoiled when carting them around on gigs - at the mo one cab is covered in an Ashdown cover (not good publicity) and the other in the plastic bag it was in when I opened up the cartage box you sent the 2nd cab to me. Finally, all the bands I see ask if you will be doing a guitar amp any time soon - there would be a lot of takers I reckon. Keep up the amazing work - you’re simply the best!!
Cheers
