FAQs
General questions
Because our cabs are very sensitive and have fairly flat response they've matched up well with almost every amp we and our customers have tried.
Totally down to your tonal preference, power requirements and weight/size preference - and of course your budget! You will get a much better sound from a cheap amp with one of our cabs than with an expensive amp and a lower quality cab. The only poor matches we've found are low power (~100W) valve amps with the Compact - but confusingly such amps work fantastically well with the Vintage!
Very well indeed.
Their naturally low distortion sound lets you hear the details of your tone, including any subtle effects whilst the robust speakers can handle the extreme low and high frequency energy and dynamic range or more intense effects.
If they have weak motors or are placed in undersized or badly tuned cabinets then they can be boomy.
These speakers have very strong motors and precisely sized and tuned cabinets. No boom or mud - unless you want it!
You can buy covers from a few aftermarket suppliers - we'll put a link on here once we have provided them with all the relevant dimensions.
Product specific questions
Yes and they're pretty extensive - see our technical section.
We will also add measured plots and recordings of our models as time permits.
Yes, the Vintage and D.M./T'D.M. are both 4 ohm nominal cabs. The Midget and Compact are 8 ohm nominal.
The Vintage and D.M. are both designed as standalone cabs for the majority of users. The Midget and Compact give you the option of a modular rig by using any two of the cabs depending on your tonal and volume requirements - however they also work very well as standalone cabs due to their high sensitivity and power handling.
We could but we can't think of a good reason to!
Our midrange speaker handles so much power that any attenuation circuit would have to dissipate a lot of heat - better to use your EQ, which will free up amplifier headroom thus giving you a cleaner truer sound than using a speaker level attenuation circuit.
T'Big One, T'Vintage, T'D.M and T'Midget all feature high quality tweeters with custom designed crossovers.
On T'Big One it's crossed over at a higher frequency to blend seamlessly with the midrange driver, whilst on the other cabs the crossover is lower and steeper to integrate with their woofers. All betweetered models have a continuously variable attenuator (from off, through flat to boosted highs) which is accessed through the port. Add £75 to the non-tweeter cab price.
No. A Speakon is so much better in every way.
If you amp only has 1/4" outs then you can use a 1/4"-Speakon cable.
Not really.
During the first ten or twenty hours of use the speaker's mechanical make-up changes somewhat as the cone bellmodes become more evenly distributed and the suspension softens, resulting in a smoother clearer and deeper (and all round better!) sound. The change is most noticeable with the Big One which sounds like it's gained almost another octave of lows between being brand new and broken-in. However this does not mean you have to baby the cab as you would when running a car in, they can still handle full power when fresh - just look forward to the tone getting better as the woofers loosen up.
Because by not cutting a hole in the enclosure to mount the handle the enclosure strength and stiffness is greater, because a plastic bar handle would be weaker than our steel cored strap handles, because a steel bar handle would be strong enough but would add excessive weight and because most of our cabs are light enough to carry in one hand and a strap handle is comfier for that and if they're not a one-hand-carry then they have wheels anyway!
Ordering and shipping questions
Shipping and exchange rates currently make the cost prohibitive.
If this changes we will be thrilled to start shipping beyond Europe!
Actual shipping charge for Midget/Compact is £50, for Big One/Vintage is £75.
Figure 1.1 EUR per GBP to work out the final price in your Euros. There is an additional surcharge of £25 for shipping to Norway as it's outside the EU. Contact us if that fits your budget!
Due to high demand there is a one month lead time on all cabs.
New models will have a longer lead time as they are ramped up to full production. To place an order we require a £100 deposit followed by full payment before shipping, though you can pay the full amount on ordering - whatever suits your cashflow!
These cabs are designed for dealing with the high SPL of gigging - hearing them in a shop or home won't give an accurate picture of how they perform. You need to try them in a loud live music environment - hence the trial period.
Also we are rushed off our feet and much as we like to chat to other bassists it isn't the most productive use of our time! If you'd like to hear a cab without buying one, contact us and we'll try to put you in touch with an owner in your area.
If you live locally you can pop by when we're available.
Contact us beforehand to make sure that we're in and that your cab will be ready. Weekdays during reasonable hours please!
Yes but you'll have to cover their extortionate fees! e.g. ~£15 extra for the Compact.
